There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, features 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel compound that contains a number of comforts accompanying the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
