There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is true of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that contains many conveniences in addition to the casino, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
