There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino gaming is not legal. Eight casinos are situated in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling den, contains 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that contains many conveniences on top of the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
